The Storyboard
Does your GPS device get you to where you’re going? A little guideance to avoid getting lost isn’t a bad thing, right?
Well, the storyboard is a tool that helps filmmakers organize productions. It's the beginning stages of telling a narrative.
As documentarians, we typically hit the field running and recording. Things move fast in real time. Storyboards are not usually a part of our process.
For our latest Borrego Springs Life short narrative “The Perfect Picture” we had the opportunity to envision our story on paper before we ever hit record. Our board took into account camera angels, framing of shots, actors reactions and script delivery. Revisiting the storyboard after the production was fun.
This “GPS” roadmap for the final film matches pretty well. What do you think?
